I agree SEO and social media are different in fact that's why we use dedicated social media people as a part of our campaigns Social Media is really about building communities and those people will buy something if what you say seems right. PPC is to get buyers in the door and out with less money so understand these are very different. Social Media can have a profound impact on website traffic which can by consequence boost overall rankings for other buyers I think that more tangent effect is what good SEO's should be pointing to. I had a company say to me we reduced our PPC and used the money to cover our own TIME now to invest in social media. Time/Money is a trade off so view them as 1:1 social media is not free and not easy but over time with commitment and something worth talking about it can be successful for businesses.
