Some people call it Reputation Management, some call it Social Media Profiling, but essentially it is about how visible you are online.
Do a simple google search on your name and see how you look. With the social media it’s pretty much possible for one to create an online “resume” sorts, where each site listed in your name will give you a separate idea about you. Linkedin will give your professional details while Twitter will give your personal and more up close picture. Stumble upon and Digg may show how addicted you are to the internet.
So next time when someone asks for your resume, ask them to google your name.
Lol quite true, when I go to blogger meets I don’t usually carry my cards, i just write down my name on a piece of paper and tell them to Google me

Not everyone has such a unique name, it would be hard for me to knock out the owner or simonward.com or any of profiles about the English actor with the same name.

After all those teen years hating my name (it was the Archie Bunker era of Polish jokes), the Internet and online search era has made me very happy to have one that no on else does!

Yes, two years or so ago when I searched for my full name I was not part of the search results. Now I dominate the whole first page - this was scary at the start, as I saw myself as a fairly private person - but I have got used to it over time.

I tried googling my name…first link was of technixupdate.com then some of them in between were relevant.

Well your card looks great and I have to do a lot of work before having just half of your ID.

Don’t you find it scary that anyone can find out so much information about you by doing a google search? I understand that it is good for your career but how good it is for your personal life?

It depends on whether you want to go public or not. You could even try it out with a screen name like “SEO ACE” or something, not necessary that it’s got to be your personal details.

If you Google me with a keyword “mregg blog”, you will see my blog at the first top results in Google SEPRs.
