Okay, this goes out to all those who want to get some quick increase in their subscriptions. No, we are not talking about the recent feedburner hack, but a genuine one that’s likely to work.
Now, this “trick” (if you can call it one) will not give you subscribers out of nowhere. That is, if you have a blog, that’s got pathetic traffic, then this is not for you. This will work for those who already have a blog, already have a decent reader base, but not enough subscribers. Some of you may disagree that when you have a decent reader base, then why should you need subscibers?
The fact is that, not all of your visitors are subscribers. They’ll probably recollect your URL and hit it directly or they may pick up your default feed, or they may just not subscribe to your blog or comment but will visit it everyday. Let’s call them “passive readers”, I hope you’ll agree that they form the majority of your readership base. Only less than 10% of readers are normally active interacting with you or the website.
Now, if we can get these passive readers to sign up or subscribe, it’d be a great push to your subscription number is it not?
Here’s how. All of you are aware of the RSS subscription reminder plugin. Right? Now, what this plugin does is, it shows up a prompted message either beneath or above your articles, whenever there’s a new visitor on the site. Check below how a default message would look like.
This is a great strategy and pretty efficient that everyone on the web is using this. The only problem is that ..well, everyone is using it! yes, when you think from a user’s perspective, he sees the same damn thing everywhere on the internet, that he “learns” sub consciously to avoid it (Just like AdSense ads).
Now, check out this one.
Compelling..is it not? I’m sure you can come up with better copies here.
You could also say – “Hey, you have a blog right? What’s the URL..let me subscribe!”
The idea is that – When everyone on the net is “pushing” readers to subscribe to the content, here you are with a smile on your face, asking their blog URL, to subscribe to.
As a matter of fact, the text above will be a link to your feed, despite that, once they are interested in the copy – I bet they’re gonna subscribe to your’s.
Now, this will work better with blogs that have a readership from people who have blogs themselves. Like all the “make money online” and “blogging tips” blogs.
If you try with better copies, it’s definitely gonna give you a push on the subscription number.
Now, try this before everyone starts doing it. Let me know if you have better copies.

Nice psychological game there to get subscribers. Unique idea I must say. After all we have to think first what can we give.

Wonderful post. It did put a smile on my face by the way. It is always nice to add a slight twist that will intrigue the reader. I plan on using a different phrase each time for getting others to subscribe to my RSS.
