This is second post in the Link Building Strategies series.
What do you think about Interviews? They always pass some value to you right ?
Interviews are no big deal on the internet. If you have a brand to show off or have done something remarkably different, then you are a candidate for interview. The interesting thing is “what is considered remarkable on the internet ? ”.
I can give you some examples.
- You started a blog just 2 months back and got incredibly popular on Digg with a few stories sky rocketing your traffic. No one knows how you did it.
- You are there on all the social media channels, and you are in constant contact with Seth Godin, Darren Rowse, John Chow and the A listers. You get replies from all the A-listers too many often on Twitter. (wow!)
- Your blog is only 3 months old and you have >500 backlinks and a Google Page rank of 5 !!!
- You are a guest writer on all the popular blogs and your avatar flashes right next to the A-lister.
Well, all I was trying to say is that in the blogging world, there is nothing that will keep you from being an expert (and being interviewed thus). There is a piece of cake for everyone.
It goes like this.
We might not end up getting 300 backlinks as with a social media article or rank list, but in this scenario, since we are “targeting” the top notch blogs with some authority, even though they might be less in number, a few good ones are better than lot of cheap ones. Like backlinks from 10 PP 6 blogs are better than 100 PR 3 sites.
P.S – This strategy may sound a bit evil (may be), but that’s not intentional at all. Interviews are a great way to share knowledge and my thoughts does not incline to the idea that all interviews are done entirely for backlinks. I’ve done interviews of talents here on DSB and none of them were for the intent of backlinks, however they ended up giving me backlinks. Good. is it not ?

Thank you for great link building tips. I was aware of traditional link building tactics such as directory submission, article submission, social bookmarks and I was using these methods very well. Now I’m thinking about using some other ways to build links and I’m glad I came across your article.

yea Julia, I’d say these methods are like those “boosters” that you should try once a while.

I feel like you need to become familiar first before you can start interviewing someone, else why would a famous blogger/person will be willing to give you an interview. I say initially blog comments, bookmarkings(not by you..hehe), professional networking, forums, social networking, content flow, etc..there are some of the areas which you need to start with before you can get some popularity to interview a person to get his backlink.
However the suggestions made by you here can’t be ignored Mani.
Thanks
Krishna.

Can’t disagree with you Krishna, you have to be a respectable, appreciated blogger before you can do that. But I assume we are all trying for it and have achieved it if not to the level of an A-lister.

what a great idea. Sometimes it can be difficult to think of what to do to try and link build. We all know how important it is but it feels sometimes like all the options have been exhausted by others and the quality of the links is less. I had never heard of this idea before and so very impressed!

Good strategy! Most posts about link building still focuses on directory submissions and blog and forum posts, but few people come up with viable, quantifiable strategies like these. Keep up the flow of good information, thank you!

Thanks for the nice tip Mani…what if you are running a blog where it might not be appropriate to post interview posts? For example, a technical “how-to” kind of a blog where it might deviate from the purpose of the blog to post interviews.

Well in such cases where an Iinterview is inappropriate, the only way around is to bring something more closer to the content through the interview, like for instance an interview where a product/technology is discussed more than the person, who might be actually involved with.

Hi
I have just started my blog so finding someone who has well followed blog should be a really good idea. Most people like publicity so i think this idea is a really good one. Not at all easy getting good links from high PR websites and we all know that is what google really likes.
