SEO for real estate websites – Tips and Ideas

Real Estate is one field where it really takes a warrior to fight his nail and tooth to make an impression. SEO for real estate is more or less a saturated area I would say unless you are clever enough to find new ideas. The traditional “overdo the competition” strategy won’t work with real estate websites, most of the times because of the fact that it’s difficult to turn over the authority quotient for the top ranking sites.

Real-estate-SEO Not trying to sound sore here, but this is the truth. If you try SEO alone, you’re probably going to waste your time trying to score for the top keywords. But there’s hope. Most of the times, the problems begin to appear because of the following reasons.

  • Selecting keywords with high competition
Most of the times the most wanted keywords would be the most wanted keywords. :)
Unless you are ready to break into newer niches, it’s futile trying to score for the top keywords.
  • No or less room for content development
Real estate agencies have nothing more than an about page and a few listings to place on the website for which you cannot expect the “SEO magic” to happen.
  • A new domain and zero authority
If you are on a domain which is pretty old, I think we have some breathing space but otherwise it’s almost impossible to break in with a new domain.

However, with all these problems in place, it might still be possible to get some traction in the early days if you try a different approach/approaches.

  • Ignore SEO for sometime
Don’t stick to SEO alone. Try other strategies too like the social media.
  • Repackage the boring stuff
Real Estate content is definitely not a “mass appeal” thing but the clever guy should find a way to repackage it, such that it is “viral”.
  • Create channels to source traffic.
You might have a brand name, but that doesn’t mean you have to stick to it all through. Ditch your company homepage. Plan and find out alternative channels that you can use to source quality traffic.
  • It’s not about huge numbers but meaningful traffic
Don’t fall for the illusion that “a lot of traffic” means “lot of sales”. No. Fewer quality traffic can give you better leads.

Well, the above points holds good for any website targeting a competitive term/terms. Real Estate happens to be one field where the competition is so high that it’s easy for website owners and real estate agents to fall for the illusion that a three-five month long SEO process can get them to their results. No, it’s tough and the wise guys is one who understands it.

Adwords are one way in, but the bidding for competitive keywords or keyphrases can really cause cause the costs to be exhorbitant, and if your budget is small a few clicks will kill it….
