You read it right - Matt Cutt’s blog is hacked by the Dark SEO Team. Here is the open letter posted on the Dark SEO team’s website to Matt Cutts.

Well, the issue is not about “Hi Jacking” like you’ve heard of, this is basically the “Google washing” phenomena. Whereby you can use duplicate content on your site to outrank the original site and this is an exploit as of now in the Google Algorithm. Matt Cutts and Google employees have been very silent whenever someone questioned them on the duplicate content issue. And this one is an answer to it. Danny Sullivan - thinks that this is not really Hijacking or Googlewashing but two different issues totally - Dupe Wash and Source Wash.
He explains -

Dupewash - the duplicate content filter causes the best pages from your OWN site to get lost. Usage: “I got dupewashed with that update.” I’m not wedded to that term, just think we could use something less cryptic than “duplicate content filter.”

SourceWash — Related to DupeWash. It means the source material is washed out by all the duplicate content from across the web. You post, then 8 billion blogs repost what you had, then the source material gets wiped out.

The point the Dark SEO Team is trying to make is that - Anyone can use Google’s duplicate content filters to ruin a competitor’s website, and steal his ranking and traffic.
