It’s sometimes annoying to see the edges and background of desktop icons stick out and spoil all the charm of that cool wallpaper you set.

Here’s a quick tip how to change the background colours of icons to transparent.

Go to Control Panel / System / Advanced / Performance Tab / Settings Button and put a checkmark in: Use Drop Shadows for Icon Labels on the Desktop

Presto! That should do the magic.

Please note that this is only applicable to Windows XP.
