When is the last time you told someone, I have a PR X, do you want to buy a link from me?

It better be the the last time you had it as your marketing pitch because Google is taking down everyone who had been selling links, by cutting down their Page Rank, irrespective of whether they are popular blogs or not.

Daniel has a list of almost all the popular blogs that reported a degradation in their PR. Keith has a few popular sites for your reference. Amit too has a few sites that has lost their PR charm.

Kumiko thinks it’s fair from Google, and she calls it TrustRank. Darren asks Google if they cut down his PR, because he took off the AdSense ads from his blog.

To me, all this hype means just one thing. It just adds up to one more reason why I don’t care about Page Rank.

Tip: If you don’t want Google to penalize you for selling links, add the “nofollow” attribute to all the text links that you’ve sold on your blog, before they find you.

Nice post Mani. Does this affect text links in general, such as feed based ads from text-link-ads?

Mani Karthik on 25 October, 2007 at 5:26 am

I don’t think so Rajesh,

These links are the text links with no “no follow” attribute in your site template, not the ones on the feed. The feed ones would not corrupt the Google algorithm.

Thanks for asking the question, I don’t think anyone have asked about the feed link anywhere in the blogosphere.

Mani
