You rarely see such titles on this blog. Today, I have a genuine reason to write one. A screen capture.

SEO-India

I appreciate the efforts but it does throws a bad picture. In fact, on many others as well.

Related SEO Tips and Articles:

  1. What upsets you? The fact that someone whose third language is English wrote something that was badly constructed?

Or that someone who is a fresher made a mistake?

Given all the stupid stuff I’ve done in my life I have to say that would be in the bottom 10%. Or lower.

  2. Oliver which part of the world are you from? If it’s not India, it’s difficult to understand what upsets me. And I think the perspective you have about mistakes in life is remarkable. I like it.

  3. Mani

I am not going to pass any judgement but it would be helpful if you exactly explained your post and what you are unhappy about.

  5. I’d like to know what exactly in that letter bugs you. If it is that some rookie is trying to do his SEO work by asking others around for advice, you may have a point, and I see why. As for another, he wants the advice for free, without any consulting fees. But other than that….

  7. @ Sumesh, Nirmal and Madhur,

Here’s what upsets Mani and many other legit. SEO’s.

1, It totally brings down the name of an Indian SEO, if he needs help he needs to approach them personally.

2, It propogates the idea that indians are majorly rookies and have no understanding of the indian language.

I’ve experienced many of these issues myself, when some of my clients asked me why indian SEO’s like spam a lot - It embaresses me.

I understand that indians are very particular about making cash really quick, but that doesnt mean they have to go about being spammy.

Seriously, those kind of comments do not give out a good picture.

And screw our indian engineering education - when it cant teach a person how to type properly in anglais - Really, really bad..

This isnt good - For both the industry and the country.

  8. Madhur, Nirmal, Sumesh and Philip,

In fact when I wrote this post, I wasn’t sure if I would/would not hurt someone. Which is why I wrote less and left it all to the screen capture. I thought it was self explanatory, but seems like it needs more explanation and people are getting it wrong. Yikes! :D

Ashwin has a point in his statement. Im upset because, it gives a really bad impression about Indian SEOs(all outsourcing) to the ROW. And it’s not a one off case as you might think, interestingly, out of all the Indian SEOs on the forums/discussion boards, many or all of them come out to be very poor in quality. In SEO knowledge and communication.

I have had exposure to instances where the someone else was preferred over brand INDIA, at the very first glimpse. It’s painful. I prefer not to discuss this because, it has grown out of proportions and any talk on it will magnify it even further - for the bad.

Let me explain it with a simple, real life scenario.

I’m working with a UK based client, they have performed really well in SEO for the efforts we’ve put together for the last year. They’d like to retire from mainstream efforts, put the site on auto-pilot mode and take a back seat on SEO. I suggested that they only need an SEO to have regular metrics checks. So, I withdraw and suggest another Indian SEO firm for the proceedings.

Here’s their reply. “Mani, we’ve had good results with you and wish to continue the project. But handing it to another India based SEO is clearly not what we are looking for. We’ve burned our hands earlier we don;t want to do it again.”

I had full confidence that the guy I suggested was really good as he’s been working with me for quite some time. But unfortunately, clients in the US and UK are either not confident to trust a India based SEO, or see them only as a outsource guy(handling your daily chores that is). Most of the time, it’s about quality of work or communication problems that matters most.

And seeing more and more of low quality profiles like the one above makes me feel low and disappointed. I truly wish if there were more serious guys, who learn to market themselves and support the industry rather than tear it down. Though, what I appreciate in them is their urge to learn.

    Hope my point is clear.

Mani, Please append your comment to the post itself.

At first when I clicked on the link, I was confused. It looks like you should change the link to http://www.seomoz.org/blog/what-can-we-expect-search-engines-to-understand-about-social-media#jtc48864

  10. I don’t care what US and UK guys think. They usually talk shit when it comes to Indians. And they very well know that Indians are the most efficient of the working class and best of the breed brains behind big projects. You think about SEO and get upset?
Think about the engineers, doctors, entrepreneurs who go to US and achieve top positions.

And companies have their management to decide whom to look out for. If they want good SEO experts they have their enough brains to sort out who is good at it. It just requires some common sense and research. One odd bad profile doesn’t make any sense. If looks could kill, you would be dead, literally.

The statement from UK client just is a gimmick to make themselves look superior . If all Indians were in India, we would have been the world’s super power!

  12. Nitin, You are right, the talents are in plenty in India and which is why we are an outsourcing hub. But I’m not going to be content with that. It’s not what we all are ultimately working towards. Are we? I beg to differ that if all Indians were in India we would be super power. Deal with the facts. Everyone can’t be here in India. But still, we could be superpower. But yes, I can see your point.

Also, note that this is not a one off case, it’s been happening for a while. I think it’s extremely important for us to ensure quality in all the outsourcing projects, or else in 10 years countries like China, and other “partly english speaking countries” will easily beat us. They have better brain than us.

Niyaz, you are right again. That would be a better link. :)

  13. I agree with Mani, the Chinese are better than Indians and the work culture is completely different in Western countries in comparision to India.

Indians are too touchy touchy on seniority and qualification which doesn’t hold any shit.

These, my dear friends will lead to our downfall and make us pathetic fools.

Bear in mind that india hasnt created any big global company till date except for the TATA’s and Birla’s who are VERY OLD traditional business groups.

We’re just too stuck to our mentality and are just too proud of ourselves to work.

Let me tell you this, indians dont have the same dedication towards work as an american or any westerner does - They just chase behind money and turn greedy.

The West will ALWAYS be the superpowers unless we change our dumb attitude

  14. That was absolutely hilarious reading seemant. Actually I understand your feeling, Mani. Infact, I feel the same.

Firstly, why would one want to rank high for the name of his business? If someone knew the name of the business, they would somehow find it, even if it was at 21. People usually search for Products not the Company. If the chap wants to attract new customers he should rather target “Hotels in Delhi” rather than “The Sariska Palace”

By the way, has anyone heard about this popular hotel in India called Sariska Palace in Delhi?

  16. hmm.. all said and done it was heartening to see that his questions were answered appropriately nevertheless..

I guess a deeper look would also suggest that we have to accept that there will be people who won’t project a “desired” image always.. and no matter what we cannot deny that there aren’t people who won’t leave a bad taste in the mouth for clients (indian or international)

I guess the best thing to do in such a case is to take a collective effort and educate each other ..

for instance on the post at seomoz I could hardly see any ‘indian’ comment, while we have indulged in a healthy diatribe here .. wats the point.. young seemant I am kinda sure won’t be reading this ..

finally all we have done is just give space to our anguish rather than getting anything constructive out of it..
