Selecting the best key word for your site.

This is the highlight for your website, this is what you want to tell people that your site is about – what it sells or what a visitor gets once visiting your site. Example – If you owned freedomains.com, then your keyword might be “free domain names” or similar.

There are a few things to keep in mind though when selecting a keyword.

- Select a keyword from the list of “most sought after” keywords on the google search engine.
- Select the keyword that has a very good pay out(AdWords clients payout).
- Select the keyword with a medium level of competition.(other websites optimised already for the same keyword)
- To try out what the existing statistics are for the keyword you selected, try searching it in google and see how many results it throws up – and if the top rated sites are ranked more than PR2 or 3 I strongly suggest that you tweak the keyword so that you dodge the competition.
- For instance, you selected a keyword “free domain names” and searched for the same in google. It comes up 13,000 results and the top sites that appears are ranked above PR 6, I would recommend that you tweak the keyword to a slightly different one and more specific to your target audience.Like, “Free domain names your country” so that the competition with the top ranked websites are avoided.
- You can search the most paid keywords list on Google adsense to check if the tweaked keyword you selected is actually preferred by adWords clients and whether its got traffic. You may visit www.goodkeywords.com to see if it’s a preferred one with AdWords clients. It’s free too.

DONOT – select keywords that are already optimised to well ranked websites and has good competition, it will take you a lot of efforts to cut the competition.
