I assume that you’re already tired of this term – “power user”. Well, I don’t know about you, but guess I am. You know, its much repeated these days, more so un necessarily. I have to argue that its an unfair term. In my opinion, everyone’s a power user because we all participate with our own might and will and do our part in making the social media what it is, so what if someone had more time to it ? Should he be called a power user – guess not. He’s probably a addict, not a power user.
But on the other side, being an addict is good on the social media, unlike real life, right ? Being more addicted means you have more powers, more influence and more fun ! it might take a toll on your health, indirectly, but still you’ll be the super star ! Doesn’t hurt.
But wait, everyone wants to be a super star. And I’m pretty sure not every one can (even if you did try pretend). So, who’s a super star on social media.
- One who can submit any crap story on Digg, and still get a first page digg.
- One who can have the luxury of following less than 100 people on Twitter and still have thousands stalking him.
But wait..is that the real deal ? So, what happens to all the self proclaimed companies and media mavens who think they’re social media power user too ? They do a fair good job on the channels. may be they can’t make a front page digg like Mr.Babyman or M.Saleem, but they work a lot too.
In my opinion, the tags should just be taken away. I mean, there’s no social media guru..there can’t be. Its highly likely that one who proclaims he’s one doesn’t even know the basics. Heck, he might buy someone to work for him, but that’s another case.
I think there are only social media participants, okay.. we probably can grade people based on how long they stay on the social media and how influential they are. But that doesn’t mean he’s a “Social Media Power User” right ? He’s a Social Media Addict.
But hey, I could be wrong.

Wow, SM Philosophy is not what I subscribed to dailySEOblog for but I don’t mind.
On the other side, I think you probably need a good presence outside of the the SM sites to really get a SM following. Or you just need to be influential on a new rising site in order to be famous in it. I think that’s how Saleem and BabyMan are famous.
