Arne’s Google sitemap generator plugin is pretty popular with webmasters. But it’s a truth that it has some problems, and there are no updates on it yet. I personally had to face two types of problems with this plugin on many of my sites.
1 - Something strage happened to the sitemap template, every time after upgradations/tweak, that I had to manually update it.
2 - The memory usage was among the highest in all the plugins I used.
Wordpress plugins
Luckily, there’s an alternative today. Simple Google Sitemap - is a sitemap generator plugin for Wordpress that has some better options than Arne’s Sitemap generator, and takes lesser memory compared to it.

Developed by ixiter, this plugin looks like a good replacement to Arne’s plugin to me. If it will run into any trouble, is yet to be seen, but so far it’s done a great job.

One significant feature I like on this plugin is that it has a ping option by which, it will ping ASK.com and MSN, after the sitemap generation process.

Download the sitemap generator plugin here.

Windows guy - Sandbox effect is an old term. There are proven ways to beat it now.
I dont think deactivating sitemap will directly and immediately cause an organic traffic slowdown.

I don’t think so, as far as the links are in place and the number of pages indexed are right, there shouldnt be any problems.
