They’ve been there right from the time of when the term SEO was coined. Link building services, Forum Link Building and Directory Submissions. They worked really well once up on a time and that’s it. Unfortunately, they don’t give the edge they used to and interestingly  could put you in trouble rather give any help.

forum-link-building-services

The reason I’m writing this post is that recently, there’s been a flurry of emails I received from link building services, all types of them. I’m guessing my email would’ve landed up in some “Pick your victim” spam channel, that I’m receiving these crazy, crazy offers.

And one such offer was from a link building service company, which made me think that – yes, this is it ! Hire this guy for all my websites and I can go on a vacation for the rest of my life.

The offers were just too good to be true at rates that were only as much as the PayPal commissions I pay for a month.

But having a deeper look at the site gave me some “insightful” revelations.

The website, which was offering the service of “Forum Link Building” , ( which some geeks prefer calling SPAM ) from PR 9 and 8 forums even, had a page rank of zero on it’s homepage. Ahha.. !

I checked out some of their sample links and found that many had been deleted, some dead, and some with imaginary URLs that didn’t even care to exist – ever. So this ended up probably as some spam engine, that got them chucked out of the Google index. And I believe the clients too followed.

But the testimonials on the website too were so convincing and just pushing me so hard to – click that Paypal button.

So is there something to learn from this ? Yes. Plpease keep away from “too good to be true” offers. They are misleading and inappropriate, most of the times. Check for credentials always. Check websites they’ve helped with, talk to them, and find out if they know what they are doing really. Or it’s going to be a cool rip off.

I have nothing against these companies personally, but cannot stand the false promises they make. It’s not always genuine you see. Probably they should change their business model. But I’m guessing there’s a lot of money being pumped in there for “experiments”.  All the best.

Related SEO Tips and Articles:

  1. I’ve learned not fall for any link building service from past experience. I often tell my clients that is better to get backlinks from only a few high-quality, high-ranked websites with relevant content.

  2. SEO and link building is not such a hilarious task that anyone need to take so much pain and pay huge sums. With so much free advice available on the net, any toddler can do that if it can spend 15 minutes a day.

Any webmaster of a blog that has any PR from 1-9 is getting such pitches nowadays. I’m getting at least a dozen tempting spams a day to claim huge sum lottos/abandoned/unclaimed money offers. The more you are aware of all these spams, the less you fall prey for all these gimmicks, and less trouble for you.

  4. This thing happened with one of our clients who wanted higher PR and first page ranking in SERP. My employer told him to wait for 3 to 6 months to see the results of search engine optimization. But he wanted to be there on the top in SERP in one month. This type of people are mostly cheated on net.

  6. It’s true a lot companies out there offer over hyped services and don’t deliver. Unfortunately it gives a bad name to honest SEO’s trying to compete.

One thing I will say though is that directory submissions still work, example.

National positions rank 3rd for “seo company” and their links are made up of directory listings.

  7. I work in marketing at my company, and all we get are emails from SEO and directory submission companies. When you actually look into what they offer it is just the same as what I am being paid to do!! They are no substitute to hard work!!
