You know those one page sales pitches, with big fonts and a boat load of tempting offers to buy that product ?

Of course, we all hate them, the one page “too good to be true” offers, but it’s a fact that they are  money makers in disguise. In fact, they make a lot of money for the owners that they are considered the best effective tool to sell anything on the internet.

We webmasters might know how to separate wheat from chaff, but based on the domain the product is in, it’s very tempting to users and they have a more than 50% chance of a buy out.

Now there are certain “rules” to design a sales page right ? They have some typical characters at least, and how does SEO work with it ? Let’s find out.

A sales page normally carries the following.

- Lots of headers

- Plenty of text

- Plenty of images

- Many video modules

- Payment gateways

- Not too much links

What resources do we have to completely search engine optimize a sales page ?

- Utilize the text very well.
There’s lot of it anyways. So use it. Write a lot of content that supports the targeted keywords and be as descriptive as possible.

- Bold and strong
Use the strong attributes carefully to the targeted keywords. Don’t go about bolding out each keyword occurrence or it would annoy readers (and bots may be). So keep it low yet plan them carefully and distribute them evenly through out the copy.

- Clever use of images.
Use the images wisely. Place them one by one among each targeted paragraph and follow the image optimization techniques properly. Let them not crowd together and agglutinate the results.

- Remain focused on the keywords
Writing about anything and everything about the keywords targeted can look more like spammy. So don’t “keyword stem”, I think it makes sense to use the same targeted keyword within different SEO elements like the headers and titles rather than using the different versions of it.

- Make use of those headers
There are going to be a lot of subtitles and headers right ? Use them well. Draft them with a focus on the targeted keywords, and use all the elements as possible. H1 through H4 and beyond.

POSSIBLE PROBLEMS WITH SALES PAGE OPTIMIZATION and POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS

1 - Too much text may dilute the focus

A lot of text can sometimes take away the focus from the targeted keywords, so you need to plan them really well ahead. And if you want to keep out negative keywords from the code but want them to be shown to the reader, you might want to use some text rendered images. But make them stand out and attractive, don’t try to hide them among the regular text.

2 - No or less links may result in dangling pages

Sales page mostly doesn’t have too many links because they have very few pages on the site. To beat this, add anchored links on the titles and subtitles and add a navigation menu from the top and bottom of the page. These will give you some more real estate for onsite SEO.

3 – No natural inbound links ? Use a subdomain

Natural links are almost impossible on sales pages so it would be a good idea to place the sales page on to a subdomain of a well linked domain. It may not work for all, but is definitely an option.

So essentially, sales pages ar both easy and hard to optimize, mainly because they have very less options as compared to a full fledged site. But it’s a fact that they are highly converting for the organic traffic they can pull in.

I think there’s only a 50% option for onsite optimization here and the rest is up to link building and offsite optimization to give the powers. But the above points should give you a good idea on what to do and what not to designing an SEO strategy for sales pages.
