How to get a higher PageRank ?

Am turning the table around this time.

Now that the Google toolbar PageRank updates are happening, we’ve seen that many of DSB readers have seen fluctuations in their PR. Comments here tell us that many have got their PageRank jumps too. So, I’d like to hear it from you.

What do you think gave you a better PR this time ?

My PR went down from 3 to 2. i am so much disappointed, but the fact is last 3 months my page views/visitors increased 100 %.

Mani’s blog is a very good one and all know you have lot of visitors, but your PR is only 3.

PR doens’t have any effect on traffic at all. In my opinion PR is a measure of how well you influence others to link to you.

I think I got a good amount of backlinks from some nice blogs, also some delicious bookmarks which helped. I went from PR 0 to PR3. Thanks for your tips Mani.

My Page Rank went down from 2 to 1 but i got some increment in backlinks then why my PR went down.

I think more than the number of backlinks we have the age of the backlinks affect our pagerank.

For instance, when the last update came out in Januaryt or december end, I had more backlinks than I had now, but most of them were new, infact all of them were made in December.

This time, the backlink count were around the same, and I did nothing additional to get backlinks, still I got PR 2.

As you said, PR is nothing when it comes to traffic, Anand is the biggest example, 80k+ visits @ PR0!

My blog went from PR0 to PR1.. Blog commenting, Forum posting, article submissions helped me to achieve this!

Mani,
I have an experience last week when the page rank was updated. My page rank did not change and its still at 4, but what happened was on the same day of the update, 2 of the keywords which I had good ranking in Google (in the first page) went to the second page. Due to this there was a decrease in traffic since that update.

What do you think could have been the reason?

Interesting. But if those keywords have been cemented there on FP for a while (im guessing No.1 or 2) and it was pushed to page 2 in a day, then it might be worth investigating. Otherwise you might want to wait for a few more days and see if it bounces back. Also if the ranks were towards 9-10, then its a natural push too. but im guessing thats not the case and is more like a No.1 to No.14 kind of jump. Right ? There could be other reasons also, like a new competitor. Let me know the KW’s and I’ll find some clues to it.

I not aware of the exact position of the keywords on FP, but Google Analytics showed me decrease in traffic for the keywords.
If your theory on new competition coming in, then I feel it would be rare that 2 keywords gone from the top list on the same day of PR update.
Make me feel that PR has some connections with rankings as well.

Nirmal, in your case it can be some Grouped Google results or Just due to the index refresh..
But I hope you got it back by now. When you search for the keyword add &num=10 and come down to say 5 to see your actual position. Also another hint I could give is due to the localization. If your competetiors have more local content, it is high time to update urs..

Last I got a nice link (high profile site) was from about dot com, I was over the moon.

Soon i realized that the buggers had cloaked it with java script and it made zero difference from a SEO perspective!! It doesn’t even show up as a backlink in yahoo or on webmaster tools or any other tool.

But, i tell you the biggest amount of business which i get is from those no follow/ no show links for a site I optimized.

So don’t discount “no follow links”.
