Not again guys..I mean this time around it’s gone so awkward that I mistake the Google homepage for the AVG antivirus website or a Brazilian forum or something.

The Google favicon gets more colorful, and yea..”unrecognizable”.

google-new-favicon I don’t know if it’s just me, but I thought Google loves minimalistic designs and when there’s no particular reason, why change anything ?  Wouldn’t it only create confusion to the users ?

Had we been bothered about Google favicon getting “boring”, we would expect the homepage to change first, but I’m sure a good majority of us wouldn’t want that to happen. Everything is fine the way it is on Google – but what’s with this favicon thing ??

Well, I guess it’s fun however, and there’s more to come as the official blog says. Remember we had the last change in May 2008.

BTW, If you are sick of this new icon, you can select a custom image to replace it (only on Firefox). Just download this Firefox extension.

  4. How many things do we change in our blog a month..? We change the icons here and ther, reposition some ads and try out various things.

i think there is nothing wrong in Google trying to maintain the freshness. Look at the buzz it created, Maybe Google wanted just that.

Also the design guys would loose their jobs if they do nothing. Its recession already, so they would have thought of something to make Brian and Larry feel that.. “Hey, we are working too..” LOL

  6. Ewww… I guess Google thinks they are so BIG they don’t have to worry about branding anymore.

Personally, I don’t like it much at all. Confusing and not yet recognizable.

  7. I’d prefer almost anything to the prior twisted letter ‘g’. Although it’s still there it’s more impressionist! It still branding to me since they’re know for changing or decorating the google search icon/page anyway. But a FireFox extension to change it ??? That’s going too far, get a life as they say!

  10. Lol..Even i noticed it while checking my tracking report of where people come in from.

Google traffic had this weird looking favicon and i almost thought someone has faked it or something.
But then google has this knack of introducing changes every now and then.
I am sure we will get used to it in sometime.

  11. Not again!!!

I was so confused when I looked at it on my phone - it’s far too small! I do think it looks quite good on mobile internet though!

  12. Totally unrecognisable at first, but once I got used to it over the past couple of days I’ve actually grown to quite like it! Maybe the fact that I’m South African, and our people are collectively known as the Rainbow Nation, with an equally colourful national flag, has something to do with it!
