Let me tell this outright. I don’t quite like the idea of people blogging just to make money from it. I could be wrong, but even if I liked the idea, ( like I have tried to, many times ), some things would just stand out glaringly awkward and remind me that something isn’t right.
I mean honestly, when you start off a blog with the sole idea of making money from it, you forget one crucial thing. To give value to your readers. Unless you pass value to your readers, I don’t see one good reason why anyone should subscribe to your blog. Its not a question about whether you will make money from the blog or not. You might still make money but you fail with making relationships with your readers. In my personal opinion relationships matter a lot.
But lets be practical. Obviously, one cannot run a blog without covering the costs and unless you make some money out of it, the equation always remain unbalanced.
I’m not trying to say that I hate affiliate marketers of anything. Nope. I actually like Shoemoney, Johnchow and the like, because even though they are affiliate marketers (and bloggers) they do give you value. And that’s exactly the point I’m trying to explain.
The readers and listeners are more intelligent than you, so give them more importance on your blog. If its affiliate marketing, nothing wrong, but make sure you pass value to your readers through it. Don’t just blindly go about “minting money”, even if you did, it won’t be a permanent solution.
So what am I trying to say ? Build your blog for the people. Help them find answers, help them find solutions, and if you do that genuinely, with the right mind set of not trying to “trick” them into something, not trying to “milk out anything” from them, they’ll give you a fair chance of being successful. If your mindset is right, that itself is half part done.
From my experience, I found that when you try too hard, it doesn’t look good on you. You got to be legit and fair, and chances are that you’ll collect rewards along the way. And those rewards are far more satisfying and valuable than the tiny gifts you try and milk out from people.
Can’t wait to hear your thoughts.

I can’t agree more. I see many people trying to make ready made affiliate websites and wondering why there is no activity in the site.
I blogged on subjects of my passion for almost three years without any intention to monetize. Now the blogging knowledge and relationships I earned are helping me to progress in my freelancing.
I think that if you genuinely try to help others, money will follow.
